About Me

A Cook Named Rebecca

Hi, I’m Rebecca.

A Texas-born cook, recipe creator, traveler, storyteller, and firm believer that some of the best memories in life are made around a table.

Cooking • Traveling • Gathering • Sharing

Welcome

Welcome to my kitchen.

I started A Cook Named Rebecca in 2016 as a place to share the food I love and the recipes I actually cook.

Over the years, it has become something much more personal: a collection of recipes, memories, traditions, travels, and all the wonderful people and places that have influenced the way I cook.

My cooking is rooted in Texas and the South, so you’ll find plenty of comfort food here — biscuits, fried chicken, casseroles, soups, homemade breads, Sunday dinners, and the dishes I grew up loving.

Tex-Mex has always had a special place at my table, too. But I’ve never wanted to cook inside one little box.

For me, food has always been about more than what’s on the plate.

What I Love to Cook

A little Southern.
A little Texas.
A little bit of everywhere.

I love Italian food, beautiful seafood, a great steak, Mexican cooking, New Mexican red and green chile, French classics, and discovering a dish somewhere that makes me think, I have to go home and make that.

It’s the smell of something cooking that takes you right back to another time.

It’s a handwritten recipe card tucked into a drawer. It’s standing in the kitchen with someone you love.

It’s the restaurant you still talk about years later, the meal you discovered while traveling, the recipe passed down through a family, and the dishes we make over and over because they simply feel like home.

That’s the kind of food I want to share here.

The best recipe isn’t necessarily the fanciest one. It’s the one you want to make again.

Some recipes here are old-fashioned and simple. Some take a little more time.

Some are inspired by restaurants, travels, family traditions, or something I happened to taste and couldn’t stop thinking about.

You’ll find everything from Southern comfort food and Texas favorites to pasta, seafood, steaks, breads, desserts, soups, holiday recipes, and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly into a category.

I’m not interested in making food complicated just for the sake of making it impressive.

I’d rather show you how to make something delicious, explain why it works, and give you the confidence to make it your own.

Travel has become one of my favorite ways to learn about food.

I love finding the places locals love, ordering something I’ve never tried before, hearing the story behind a dish, and paying attention to the little details that make a meal memorable.

Sometimes that inspiration comes from a beautiful restaurant. Sometimes it comes from a roadside stop, a tiny café, a farmers market, a family kitchen, or a plate of something completely unexpected.

Those experiences always seem to find their way back into my own kitchen.

I may come home wanting to recreate a sauce, learn a new technique, bake a certain bread, or simply capture the feeling of a meal I loved.

That curiosity is a big part of A Cook Named Rebecca.

Why I Keep Cooking

Cooking is how I take care of people.

It’s how I celebrate, how I remember, how I create, and sometimes how I slow down.

There is something special about making a meal from scratch and watching people gather around it.

You don’t need a perfect kitchen, expensive equipment, or formal training to create food people remember.

You just need a willingness to learn, a few good ingredients, and a reason to pull up another chair.

That’s what I hope this site feels like.

Not a perfect kitchen. A lived-in one.

A place where the biscuits may not all be the same shape, there’s probably something simmering on the stove, someone is telling a story, and there is always room for one more person at the table.

Pull Up a Chair

Come cook with me.

Whether you came here looking for an old-fashioned Southern recipe, something new for dinner, a restaurant-inspired dish, a little Texas flavor, or simply some inspiration, I hope you find something that makes you want to head into the kitchen.

Try a recipe. Change it if you want to. Make it for someone you love. Start a tradition of your own.

And most importantly, enjoy the time around the table.

I’m glad you’re here.
